Watch Out for “Apple Care” Vishing Attacks

Watch Out for “Apple Care” Vishing Attacks

Vishing scams are on the rise and pose a serious threat to you and your business. Vishing attacks are fraud tactics that trick users into revealing information through voicemail, VoIP or telephone.

Cyber criminals are recently using Apple Care to get individuals to give up confidential information. Criminals will call acting as Apple Care, claiming that your iCloud information has been part of a data breach. They then prompt individuals to log into their computer so that the “technician” can establish a remote connection. By following their guidance, you have allowed the cyber criminal to take over your computer, giving them the ability to download malware or access confidential files.

Avoid becoming a victim of these vishing scams:

  • If you receive a call from a company that is requesting you access your computer and warns you that something bad will happen if you don’t comply, hang up immediately and contact the company directly.
  • Whenever you need to call a company regarding your accounts, verify that you are calling the official number and not a fraudulent customer service line.
  • Be wary of calls, as vishers can spoof any phone number. It may look like a safe source; however, it could be a scam. We urge you to hang up and place your own call.
  • Never provide personal or financial information over the phone if you were the receiver of the call.
